City of Portland Candidate Learning Session

The new year kicked off with the City of Portland bringing together multiple agencies to answer all the questions prospective candidates might have while trying to navigate this unprecedented election, what with the introduction of an expanded city council and all municipal offices on the ballot together for the first time ever. Along with the City Elections Office, we heard from representatives from the Small Donor Elections program, the Secretary of State, Multnomah County Elections, and ORESTAR.

By attending the learning session, I received a comprehensive overview of the districting process, the new city governance structure, and the general status of Portland’s transition. Additionally, we were given extensive guidance on the distinct city, state, and matching-program campaign finance regulations. The agencies also provided us with greater clarity on how Ranked Choice Voting will be implemented on our ballots for the first time, which is information that will be crucial for voters to understand this November.

Onward, Together
